As Japan becomes one of the world’s most rapidly aging societies, adult vaccination is emerging as a critical yet underutilized tool for protecting health, sustaining productivity, and strengthening economic resilience. Municipalities across Japan are stepping up to promote adult vaccine uptake – from subsidies to public awareness campaigns. This report synthesizes findings across six municipal case studies to identify what local governments are doing to support adult vaccines – and why.
The case study report follows the launch of the Landscape Report on Vaccine Policy in Japan and the high-level symposium in Tokyo, “Redesigning Adult Vaccine Policies for Super-Aging Societies: What Role Should Vaccines Play to Encourage Healthy Aging and Support Economic Growth in Japan, Asia-Pacific and Beyond?”, convened by GCOA, AP-CHAAI, and HGPI.
