The Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA) participated in the 34th United Nations International Day of Older Persons, Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide, on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the ECOSOC Chamber, UN Headquarters in New York. In partnership with WETA and the United Nations DESA, GCOA contributed to discussions on the future of caregiving and the critical role of care and support systems for older adults worldwide.
The event featured prominent speakers and panelists from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, who shared essential insights on the care and support of older adults. GCOA’s CEO, Michael Hodin, helped introduce an interactive dialogue between Wendy Naugle, Editor-in-Chief of PEOPLE, and Josh Carter, CEO of the VEO-IBD Foundation and grandson of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Highlights also included an exclusive preview of Caregiving, a documentary executive-produced by Bradley Cooper and presented by WETA that showcases the challenges and triumphs of caregiving. Additionally, Lorraine A. Cortés-Vázquez, Commissioner of the NYC Department for the Aging, delivered a powerful keynote on the role of policy in supporting older adults.
