How old is too old to be president of the United States? As we watch several men in their mid-70s compete for the chance to run against a sitting president in his mid-70s, one has to wonder whether these guys are too old for the job. The answer is: No, they are not.

Brenden Greeley’s “The economy is king in Donald Trump’s re-election bid” (Opinion, December 20) accurately and optimistically concludes that our US economy will “get [another] massive wave of hiring around mid-year”. But in his earlier, also accurate assessment that “working age adults continue to join the workforce” he misses another, equally powerful piece of the puzzle: for employers and policymakers in any growth economy to take the necessary 21st-century step of opening jobs to those of us over the quaint 20th-century retirement age of 60 or so.

The U.K. has ushered in a new Conservative government to get “Brexit done.”  The pound rose in value against the dollar on the news that Boris Johnson is in - but meanwhile the health of the nation suffered a dip in the news that day. 

The next World Congress of the International Association for Gerontology and Geriatrics will take place in Buenos Aires in June 2022, chaired by the Argentine Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics (SAAG) and the Gerontological Association of Argentina (AGA).
